What is msfeedicon?

msfeedicon is a FREE plugin to the Windows RSS platform and Internet Explorer 7 Feeds and appears as an icon in the Windows XP/Vista system tray and displays when you have unread posts in your subscribed feeds. Whenever there is new posts in a feed msfeedicon will show an notification window with direct access to unread posts. No more need to have the Feeds Favorites Center visible in Internet Explorer nor Internet Explorer open to see when your feeds are updated.

Icon in system tray

msfeedicon will display a feed icon in your system tray which will adjust to the status of the Windows RSS platform.
  • An orange icon with a small star on the icon indicates that you have unread posts (changed in 2.3)
  • A green circle on the icon indicates that the Windows RSS platform is updating a feed (changed in 2.3)
  • A grey icon indicates that there are no unread posts (changed in 2.3)
You bring up the msfeedicon menu by right-clicking on the icon and double-clicking it will open up one of your unread feeds using your web browser .

Notification Window

The notification windows of msfeedicon appears whenever there is a new post in one of your subscribed feeds. The window appears in the lower right corner of your screen. Depending on your settings the notification will disappear after a few seconds and possible display notifications for other updated feeds. Clicking on the notification window will open up the feed in your preferred web browser and close the notification.

Star
Clicking on the Star icon in the notification window will make the notification window to stay on the screen until you explicitly tell it to disappear, and possibly display another updated feed. You can Un-Star the notification window and it will eventually time-out. Using the Star icon will allow you to save the updated feed information and read it when you have time.
Tags
You have the option to enter Tags into msfeedicon. The Tags or keywords is used by msfeedicon for scanning the new posts for the stuff you are interested in and help you sort out the interesting posts.
You can custommize how the Tags are used; you can either Auto-Star the notifications or only show notifications for the posts containing your Tags.
